Getting started with Foglight for Container Management
Containers is a method of an operating system virtualization that allows you to run an application and the dependencies in a resource-isolated process. Foglight® for Container Management simplifies this process by tracking each container, the resources it consumes and the remaining compute of the container host. Moreover, it provides a cluster information and the pre-configured rules with notifications that identifies the problem of your clusters.
This Release Notes covers the resolved issues, known issues, workarounds and some other important information about the 4.0.0 release of Foglight for Container Management. Review all sections before starting installation.

Note: Windows containers are not supported in this release.
This 4.0.0 release of Foglight for Container Management accompanies the release of Foglight Evolve 9.3 and Foglight for Virtualization, Enterprise Edition 8.9.3. It includes Foglight for Container Management for Kubernetes (GA release) and Foglight for Container Management for Docker Swarm (Technical Preview release). This release includes following new features and improvements:
Foglight for Container Management for Kubernetes
Supports Container Cost for Kubernetes environment. (FCON-1030)
Notes:
1. Currently, the
Kubernetes costs for AKS and EKS environment are calculated.
2. To access the Cost tab, both Administrator role and Container Administrator role are required.
3. Container cost does not collect costs from cloud providers, but uses the cost data collected by cloud agents for parsing the Container environment cost. For more prerequisites, refer to Cost section in Foglight for Container Management User and Administration Guide.
Foglight for Container Management for Docker Swarm
Foglight for Container Management for Docker Swarm does not include any new feature or improvement.
This 4.0.0 release of Foglight for Container Management accompanies the release of Foglight Evolve 9.3 and Foglight for Virtualization, Enterprise Edition 8.9.3. The following is a list of issues addressed and enhancements implemented in this release.

To upgrade the Foglight for Container Management to the latest version:
Note: Kubernetes Agents migrated from Heapster to Prometheus will fail to collect metrics when using Prometheus configured to use Authentication other than Kubernetes Authentication.

Foglight includes a licensing capability that restricts access to those features that are defined in the license. Any Management Server installation requires a license that grants access to server-specific parts of the browser interface and the features associated with them. Foglight cartridges are also license-protected. While some cartridges are covered by the base Foglight license (such as Foglight Agent Manager cartridges and Foglight for Infrastructure), others may require an additional license.
For Foglight for Container Management, the Monitoring features are covered by Foglight Evolve Monitor, Cloud, Operate, and Flex license, while the Cost, Optimizer, and Capacity Management features are covered by Foglight Evolve Flex, Operate, and Cloud license.
To activate a trial or a purchased commercial license:
Foglight for Container Management 4.0.0 is a software release, and consists of the .car file required for installation on the Management Server and the necessary documentation.

Foglight for Container Management 4.0.0 comes pre-installed on Foglight Evolve 9.3 or Foglight for Virtualization, Enterprise Edition 8.9.3.
