Foglight for SNMP supports SNMP versions 1, 2c, and 3. Use Foglight for SNMP for the following monitoring activities:

These Release Notes cover known issues, system requirements, licensing and other important information relating to the 5.9.2 release of Foglight for SNMP. Review all sections before starting the installation.

New in this release

This release does not include any new features. It is made to accompany the 5.9.2 release of Foglight for Infrastructure.

Resolved issues and enhancements

The release is made to accompany the 5.9.2 release of Foglight for Infrastructure. The following is a list of issues addressed and enhancements implemented in this release.

Defect ID

Resolved Issue

IC-3892 Fixed issue where the foglight.limit.instances Registry variable remained unset after installing the 5.9.2 release of Foglight for SNMP.
IC-3788 The network utilization was reported as a high value for the Cisco router.
IC-3558 In some cases, the SNMP Monitors Default Collection Interval did not match the default Management Server Time Range.

Known issues

The following is a list of issues known to exist at the time of this release.

Defect ID

Known Issue

IC-3896

The foglight.limit.instances Registry Variable reaches the maximum value, which causes the creation of a new topology object is failed.

Workaround: Search for foglight.limit.instances on the Manage Registry Variables dashboard, and then set a larger value as needed.

IC-3612

The system.sysObjectID is not correctly formatted on some SNMP engines.

IC-3576

Documentation is missing SNMP agent sizing recommendations.

IC-3533

Add support for POLYCOM® RealPresence® Collaboration Server (RMX®).

IC-3520

Enhance Foglight for SNMP to better handle devices that are not currently supported (that is, devices that have no sysObjectID in the Supported devices list).

IC-3239

The agent logs an IOException when parsing Integer64 or Counter64 in SNMP.

Workaround: Use SNMP V2c credential to collect Count64 SNMP data.

IC-3176

(SNCAR-837)

Upgrade and compatibility

The latest version of Foglight for SNMP is 5.9.2.

Prerequisite: Foglight for Infrastructure 5.8.5.4 (or later) must be installed before upgrading to Foglight for SNMP 5.9.2.

Note: Foglight for Infrastructure is order-dependent. Therefore, the Agent Manager must be updated on the Management Server prior to installing Foglight for Infrastructure.

Important: The BindUpTimeToHostBootTime rule was updated since Foglight for SNMP version 5.8.5.6. Before upgrading Foglight for SNMP to version 5.8.5.6 or later from old versions (for example, 5.8.5.3), ensure that the BindUpTimeToHostBootTime rule was not modified on your environment. After upgrading to version 5.8.5.6 or later, you must disable the GenericSNMPService cartridge and then re-enable it (or restart the Management Server), so that the rule change takes effect.

To upgrade Foglight for SNMP to the latest version:

  1. Use the Administration > Cartridges > Cartridge Inventory dashboard to install the SNMPCartridge-5_9_2.car cartridge and all the sub-cartridges within it. Do not delete the older version of the .car file. Install version 5.9.2 over the older version.
  2. Manually upgrade the agents.
    1. Navigate to the Administration > Agents > Agent Status dashboard.
    2. Do one of the following:
      • Select any GenericSNMPAgent type agent and any GenericSNMPTrapAgent type agent and click Upgrade.
      • Click Deploy Agent Package and deploy both GenericeSNMPAgent and GenericSNMPTrapAgent packages to the targeted Foglight Agent Manager host.
  3. Disable the GenericSNMPService cartridge and then re-enable it (or restart the Management Server), so that the rule changes takes effect.

The following Foglight product versions and platforms are compatible with this release.

Product licensing

Foglight includes a licensing capability that restricts access to those features that are defined in the license. All Management Server installations require a license that grants access to server-specific parts of the browser interface and the features associated with them. Foglight cartridges are also license-protected. While some cartridges are covered by the base Foglight license (such as Foglight Agent Manager cartridges and the Cartridge for Infrastructure), others may require an additional license. This cartridge is covered by the base Foglight license.

To activate a trial or a purchased commercial license:
  1. On the navigation panel, under Dashboards, click Administration > Setup > Manage Licenses.
  2. Click Install.
  3. In the Install License dialog box, click Browse.
  4. In the file browser that appears, specify the location of the license file.
  5. In the Install License dialog box, click Install License.
